Top 9 shonen anime
Thought I'd talk about something that makes me happy. Since school is here for me, I'm gonna be back in a rut and limited on content. But whatever, it's not like this post hasn't been done a hundred times, but I always see a lot of the same anime listed, so I thought this would be a nice change in pace. Also, I got lazy, so there is only nine, not ten.
Kimestu no yaiba
Starting with now my favorite show, and it hasn't even ended yet, kimetsu no yaiba, or demon slayer really made it big with it's highly praised animation in episode 19. But in my opinion every episode they have is so special and has cool moments. The manga is super great too! All the characters in this story have a significant purpose and effect something in some way. The creator didn't create just a simple demon to come out of nowhere just for the heck of it, their were consequences and gained experience. There is so much emotion and facial expressions with each character, you can tell exactly what a person is like just from a few minutes with them. I saw a certain person say that it was like "monster of the week" type thing like they have in mecha anime, but that just isn't the case, since those demons that Tanjiro, our main character fights have a story of their own and we get to see more sides to Tanjiro as he goes further in being a demon slayer.
I'd like to say that the fans each have a character that they get attached too, but in this case it's more like the whole entire cast. Even some demons get some love from fans, I'm guilty since I have a soft spot for Akaza who probably won't even show in this season. Never have I ever wanted to reccomend a show so badly. It's just way too good, and comedy gold too. And there's not even a jokester character in the entire show! It's not all depressy stressy, which I myself get bored of, so luckily this show is a mix! I even feel like the studio is just messing with us because it seemed as though they make sure to makes the animations as goofy as possible. Oh, and the female protagonist, Nezuko isn't some damsel in distress, she could literally kill you and is the best imoeto I've ever witnessed. Please, watch it. Then we can be friends.
My Hero Academia
Y'all should already know where this is going! But I'll speak as a manga fan and recommend the manga since I know a lot of us have seen the anime. Better catch up now before the series gets like fifty volumes to it! Anyways, I really like this series, so much so that I've even become a theorist in the fandom. Like I had speculations that all for one was midoriya's father way before it became mainstream because I know that the creator likes starwars, even basing all for one's design off Darth Vader. Like if that isn't enough speculation already, I don't know what is.
This series does a great job at making it really feel like a superhero genre, all the characters have something interesting about them with unique designs making it be so that anyone could've been the main character. Something that really makes shounen come out great, is when they show the strongest villain early in the series, that means that we will have to wait till till the end of the series when our main character has trained to match or overpowers them to defeat the villain, and how they will do that is also incorporated in BNHA with Midoriya going to U.A High being All Might's successor, it's some big shoes to fill and he knows that he needs to do his best because he wants to be Number One Hero just like All Might. But we as viewers know that all this training and gaining strength and morality is preparing him for a big battle. I'm here for the long run since 2017, hope you'll be too.
Dororo
Wow, what a legend. Only awhile back it was finished and I'm still not over it. Dororo, even though she is a small child, she has street smart skills and is great at getting money. Her gender was believed to be a boy at first, that just added to her character. The reason being is that Dororo speaks of she was a boy, and her parents wanted her to be strong, which makes sense since the way they were living required warriors to protect their group. Hyakkimaru, he doesn't even talk that much at all in the show since he doesn't get vocal cords till like halfway through. Every episode is so enjoyable, and we go on a journey of finding all of Hyakkimaru's body parts and organs that were swallowed by demons and ghouls. He's also got swords for arms that were made by his Guardian. Freaking swords for arms! If that ain't cool, I don't know what is.
When I try to explain this show, I usually say that it is like a mix of Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul, and Avatar the last Airbender. Since it takes place in historic Japan, probably over hundreds of years back, it gave me some Naruto vibes and with the fluid animation that you would see in Shippuden. Plus, the opening really hypes you up. Tokyo Ghoul, because they incorporate Ghouls in the show and how they ate Hyakkimaru's body parts, plus, each Ghoul and Demon is different and deadly. The amount of gore you see in this show is very similar to TG's in a way. Lastly, Avatar because of the characters. Avatar did an amazing job with its characters and keeping each one of them different and realistic. Dororo sort of reminds me of Sokka, except for the part that Sokka is a great leader and more comedic. What my point is, this show has many similarities to other great shows, but still is very orginal. Even for being a remake, it made sure it's audience of this generation can enjoy it since the first one was made fifty years ago. I really really suggest it.
Attack On Titan
Y'all can say "it's overrated" all you want, but I don't care. Those people just don't appreciate it and have stubborn taste, like throughout the whole show I've been interested in every single episode. It's not just about defeating titans as it shows in season two, to figure out the history that goes back hundreds of years, how the titans came to be and what actions will be take to bring the land to peace.
It's funny how everyone likes to pick fun at Eren for always yelling, but he is only like sixteen. Immature at first, but then develops into a strong kid that doesn't let things get to his head. I like that he actually gets stuff done and follows through with plans. Armin is so smart, and he may not think it, but he's a great leader who is quick to think. Mikasa isn't just Eren crazy, she protects her family and others who are close to her. Her muscle strength comes to good use, and is stubborn as heck. Does nobody see all these amazing characters? Heck, pretty little princess Historia is an actual princess and is a badass lesbian, props to her for speaking up for herself. So, all I'd like to say is that each character is amazing with their own background and personality which the writers incorporate into their story so well. Everything happens for a reason in this series.
Future Diary
Yukki and Yuno both struggle with mental illnesses in the show, so before you think "oh Yuno is just a yandere" please think twice because she gets attached to Yukki for a specific reason and it is a call for help, her brain is so far from being sane, and she knows that. Yukki is an anchor for her, a safe place if you could say. Anything that could interrupt their happy end she doesn't have any fear since she can just reset the time they had together or kill the person getting in the way. Her mentality is definitely an interesting one, and even I have troubles trying to put it into words. Yukki on the other hand has been traumatized by the death of his parents and only wanted them to be together again and he was gonna be happy. In this show, they are playing a game like hunger games to become god and fulfill their wish. After his parents death, he clings to Yuno as support to help him and he loves her back because she was only person with him, and who would protect him.
This show really likes to screw with everyone's mentality. Relationships can change completely because of fear, lust, or greed. Nobody is safe. I like how they show a side of the story for the other characters that are participating in the game to the death. It's great how the person who first tries to kill Yuno and Yukki, ends up becoming an ally. And probably one of the best characters ever. I'm sorry, but Minene Uryuu is my waifu, so I gotta give her the praise she deserves. Highly suggest watching it since it's basically an anime classic, and you know it's good when you rewatch it.
The Promised Neverland
This is such a great show, I'm so hyped up for season two. Cause I know a bit of what happens in the manga and it's really a story to get into. And unlike a lot of anime, they actually seem like eleven year olds, only under their circumstances is there parts where they are smarter and more mature than average because they grew up getting as smart as possible. Honestly, I was completely going into this show expecting it to be crap and only just a wholesome show. Until the intro really made me think otherwise and until that one moment that I know that you know what I'm talking about if you've seen it, really changed my mind on the whole entire show.
Emma, Norman, and Ray are our main characters that have really almost nothing in common. But they just are the best of friends, Ray being a emo cinnamon roll who thinks that he can do stuff that wouldn't be really considered "humane" is overwhelmed by the power of friendship that consists within Norman and Emma. It's great. I really don't want to give off any spoilers since that would ruin the whole show for you, but just know, that it'll be an intense ride where you mentally think to yourself a problem and a solution. I like those type of shows that are predictable but always show something getting in the way making every decision change. I like puzzles and strategies, what can I say? I highly suggest this anime to anyone who is just starting out, because this is the show I want people to know about when they think of an anime.
Kakegurui
Welcome back to another episode of "I can't believe it's not hentai" about a gambling obsessed girl, who is the embodiment of "yolo" on an extreme level. I still have no idea as to why she is like this, or how she got all her skills. I know she practiced with her sister or something like that, but it's just crazy how well she can handle stress and pressure at every side, she's probably insane, but she acts so cute too, and is best girl material so I can't really complain. When I expected to watch this, I thought it was just going to be a bunch of horny girls playing cards. Apparently you're allowed to commit suicide if it goes along with the rules and not to mention, cut off fingers too.
I love solving a puzzle, and the feeling of being right. So when the characters explain their plan, or what they did, that's probably the best part because it makes it so unique. There are consequences for any of your actions, and karma does exist in this show. Except for our main character, cause karma is her best friend. I freaking love that girl, she gets crap done! When other characters come in her way to her goal of being president, she doesn't feel threatened, some feel threatened by her because she doesn't phase, nothing gets to her, not even being poisoned can stop her. I was honestly more happy for a season two than how I feel when other shows I like are getting a season two. I don't really know how to describe the feel that I get while they gamble, but it's awesome.
Kabaneri
Everyone likes to compare it to this show to Attack on Titan, calling it out for being a "copy" but if anything, there are so many zombie and man eating creatures in anime so really, they aren't copying, they are just transforming an already known idea into something a bit new and unique. I loved everything about this show, from the great protagonist that never gave a crap, to the girl who was only trying her best to get along with people even if she wasn't entirely human. We actually saw the characters struggle and not just randomly heal or become super powerful with strength, beside when the main character went overboard, but that makes more sense.
The animation for it is top tier, one of my favorites. There is this one specific part where a female character is really, and I mean really is using her muscle strength and instead of her looking like any other anime girl with a slim figure, you get to the function of her muscles at work. I watch that part monthly and want to cry because it's so beautiful. Kabaneri said women's rights! Anyways, it's a quick to the point show, and I'm soon going to watch the movie because I miss these characters and the action scenes of them killing the zombies, which are called Kabane. Kabaneri are both human and Kabane, so they have a sort of super natural ability, but they need to consume blood, and just blood is fine, to keep themselves alive. I sort of love that part, cause it takes a lot for the humans to trust them because of their consumption. But realizing they are a valuable ally, they even offer it to them. Such a change in point of views happens, it's just, so amazing. They show makes you want to yell "heck yeah!" All the time from the hype.
Ttigraas
I am not going to bother putting the full name up there, but how do you like my abbreviation? It actually sounds cool said aloud. For those of you who have no clue as to what this show is even with the image, it is That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, gosh darn those light novel isekais. Always making my job harder with recommendations. This show is so very comedic and has something for the wholesome fans, and the energetic ones that like fight scenes. The magic system is so simple and easy to understand, Rimaru, our main character the slime is so very op, and what makes it work is that we know why and how he got his stats and he also has a limit to himself. He isn't invincible, but it just seems that way, and their are some people more powerful than him too. Knowing those limits is what makes him a grounded character.
I'm going to keep this last part short since I'm tired and need to get this done. So, what I also like about this show is how many different species their are, and what they can upgrade to, just like a game. Rimaru is easy to trust and knows very well how to handle just about any situation since he comes from our world. Did I mention that it's also an isekai? Well, it's a pretty darn good one.
